Black Dirt Futures

Black Dirt Futures: Green Infrastructure Scenarios for the Southern Wallkill is a hybrid exhibition that shares the results of research and proposals for site-specific green infrastructures to improve resiliency and support livelihoods within the Southern Wallkill Valley. The exhibition tells the unique story of the cultural and ecological conditions that have shaped the Black Dirt Region, as well as current and emerging risks to local ecologies and economies, as well as how nature-based solutions might be integrated into the Wallkill Valley, through the development of an illustrated toolkit of green infrastructure strategies. Materials were designed in tandem with community partners, including the Orange County Planning Officer and the Wallkill River Watershed Alliance. In addition to being able to be shared online, materials are designed to be reconfigured into a pop-up exhibition for future use by partners.
